FUE

FUE Hair Transplant

What do you mean by FUE Hair Transplant.

FUE means Follicular Unit Extraction performed either manually or with motorized FUE machines. Manual FUE is performed with FUE punches of varying sizes from 0.5mm, 0.7 mm, 0.9 mm, 1 mm, 1.2mm and 1.5mm depending on the number of hair grafts ( for example single, double, triple or four).

What is the first step to perform FUE hair transplant

The first step in FUE HT is to trim of the hairs short at the donor area and marking the safe donor area for graft harvesting. Once the donor area is marked local anesthesia solution along with tumescent is injected to numb the area, followed by use of manual FUE punches to deliver the grafts.

How Manual FUE is performed.

Manual FUE punches are placed over the trimmed hairs and rotatory motion is made to cut through the dermis and under 3-4 mm, this is done all over the safe donor zone depending on the number of grafts required. The grafts are removed with forceps by gently pulling motion without causing any transection to the roots. The harvested grafts are subjected for dissection/removal of any extra tissues under the magnifier/ microscope and finally implanted into the recipient areas.

How Rotary FUE is performed

Rotary FUE is performed by FUE hand piece attached to it. The FUE punch attached to hand piece rotates at a certain rpm, when placed over the trimmed hairs of the donor area the punches rotates and cuts through the skin to a depth of 3-4 mm, this is repeated several times and finally grafts delivered.

What is the recovery time in FUE Hair transplant.

Manual FUE is a time taking process when compared to rotary FUE which is very fast. The FUE donor area heals in 2-3 days and scabs starts to fallout from the 3rd day. FUE HT recovery time is quicker and one can do their routine activities from the very next day. The transplanted area appears as black scabs and the scabs starts to peel off between 3rd days to 14th day of FUE hair transplant procedure. Many people are concerned about FUE hair transplant side effects, there is absolutely no matter of concerns regarding side effects and healing time as FUE hair transplant procedure is not invasive when compared to FUT procedure. The cost of FUE hair transplant though there are many reasons for the variation in price between the two methods.

Where does hair follicles are taken from to conduct FUE technique.

The donor area for FUE hair transplant is the back of the scalp and sometimes hair follicles can be taken from beard and body areas such as chest if the donor area is insufficient.
